Saline Netti Pot: Wash out the sinuses and smooth out as much irritation as you can with a saline solution netti pot. Just please be sure to NEVER USE TAP WATER.
Salt Water Gargles: Do this 1-2 times daily to soothe that scratchy throat and disinfect it to prevent further infection or irritation.
Acupuncture. Goes without saying right! But really this is a very fast way to regain access to your nasal passages and curb that pressure headache.
Eucalyptus oil: Pop a few drops in water in an essential oil diffuser to fill your air with decongestant relief. You can also keep the pot of oil in your pocket and give it a good sniff every now and then.
Eye compresses: Cold, wet chamomile tea bags over the eyes is very soothing for itchy eyes, so is pure rose water soaked into a small cloth and placed over the eyes. If you’re at work this might be challenging, so try cool milk! Simply dab a milk filled cotton ball all around your eyes. The fat soothes the dry itchy feeling right away.
3 Ways To Prevent As Much As Possible:
Leave shoes and jackets outside the front door. Those allergens will cling to anything and your shoes and jacket are your outer layer so shed them at the front door to allow your house to be an allergen free zone as much as possible.
Invest in an air purifier. Allergens are all master flyers and floaters- they will drift through screen doors so don’t risk it. Close the windows and doors and purify the air in your home.
Apple Cider Vinegar. A teaspoon of ACV a day in warm water has proven to increase health in many ways. One of the effects is in clearing out the “passages” to through the sinuses.
3 Places To Treat Underlying Inflammation:
Probiotics. Replenishing the gut lining is vital, especially if you end up on antibiotics for sinus infections a lot. Talk to your doctor about how to balance taking an antibiotic prescription with a probiotic supplement, but a general rule of thumb is to take them 2 hours apart from each other (pro first, anti later). This act of promoting intestinal health so that you know you are absorbing all the nutrients in your food and filtering out the bad stuff efficiently, is a great way to clean and strengthen your system. A clean system will provide a better foundation to wash allergens out quickly so that your immune system stands a better chance of balancing itself out.
An anti inflammatory diet. Start eating a more alkaline diet immediately and continue through the allergy season. Allergies begin (in part) as an inflammatory response and all the symptoms are inflammation (throat, sinuses, headaches etc). Add in anti inflammatory foods like garlic, lemon, bone broth, greens, nuts and seeds, and cutting out known inflammatory foods like gluten and dairy.
Bromelain & Quercetin Combo. We always have this anti inflammatory enzyme and bioflavenoid combination in stock. The pair come primarily from pineapple and helps dis-inflame the sinuses and stabilize the release of histamines to control allergy symptoms. But don’t be fooled, eating tons of pineapple won’t have the same effect as the concentrated supplement. You need to take it every day for a few months to really see a big improvement. This is you playing the long game.
